Put their Mouth where their Money Is

From March 1st to March 30th, two Brooklyn Entrepreneur Pet Food Makers will be eating nothing but their dog food for 30 days; a Pet Food Me spin on the 2004 documentary Super Size Me. I’ve got a great idea…let’s challenge all pet food manufacturers to do the same. Further, how about FDA Administration too? If they can make it, compliance policy it, recommend it safe for our pets, then how about they eat nothing but pet food for a month.

Evermore Pet Food owners Hanna Mandlebaum and Alison Wiener will “subsist exclusively for one month on their human-grade, gently cooked dog formulas and recipes made only from the whole-food ingredients in their food” says a PRWEB press release.  The two women pet food manufacturers say its not about the shock value of eating dog food, rather they state they want to stand behind their claims demonstrating the integrity of their products.

Interesting concept…a pet food manufacturer that is willing to stand behind their claims.

I say we make this a collective challenge.  Not to take anything away from the marketing plan of Evermore Pet Food, but just imagine how fun this could be if all pet food manufacturers ‘ate their words’ for thirty days.  And of course we’d need to invite our friends at the FDA and AAFCO to participate too.  If they approve it safe for our pets, then surely they would be willing to consume it for 30 days?  Wouldn’t they?

Ok Chef Michael, instead of cooking up that meal for your cute little dog Bailey, it’s time for the Purina Pet Care CEO to chow down on some “Savory, flavorful Herb Chicken Flavor and rice & spinach garnishes in meaty juices”…complete with meat by-products, carrageenan, and added dyes.   Hill’s Science Diet CEO, we invite you to dine on your new Weight Loss System with portion control.  Iams, Pedigree, Kibbles ‘n Bits CEO’s…we invite you too.  We invite all pet food manufacturers to chow down on your AAFCO approved fares.  Your choice of variety.  Thirty days – nothing but your pet food.

And what food fight would be complete without inviting those that are responsible for ingredients such as Animal Fat and Meat and Bone Meal (ingredients determined from FDA testing to be likely to contain the lethal drug pentobarbital), fish meal preserved with ethoxyquin, and the ever popular Chinese imported (without consumer knowledge) vitamins and minerals.  We also invite FDA/CVM Director Office of Surveillance and Compliance Dan McChesney, AAFCO President Chad Linton, a representative of Pet Food Institute, a representative of the National Renderers Association and of course we can’t forget the AVMA.

FDA/CVM, AAFCO, PFI, NRA, and AVMA…please make sure your pet food choices of breakfast, lunch, and dinner for 30 days include the ingredients by-product meal, animal fat, animal digest, and/or meat and bone meal.  We’d like you to enjoy the same fine dining of pet food ingredients that FDA Compliance Policies allow to violate the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act Laws.  After all, if it’s good enough for our pets…

Pet Owners challenge all pet food manufacturers, all regulatory authorities, and all pet food special interests groups to participate in the 30 Day Pet Food Me Challenge.  March 1st through March 30th, 2011.  Can you handle it?  Please…keep us posted on your progress (and for many of you…let us know what hospital you’re in…we’ll send you a coupon for free food).

Wishing you and your pet(s) the best,
