Consumers with questions about the recall are encouraged to call our consumer care team at 1-800-667-2424 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. EST weekdays and 9:00 a.m. – 5 p.m. EST on weekends or visit https://www.whiskas.ca/en/update.

Note: This recall does not disclose the cause, the company only states “raw ingredients” were outside “quality specifications“. This could be anything from mycotoxin contaminated grains to pentobarbital contaminated ingredients (or anything in between).

When a recall notice does not disclose the cause, pet owners who have been feeding the recalled product are put at a concerning disadvantage. Is the reason serious? Should my pet be seen by a veterinarian? What would I tell the veterinarian?

Without disclosure of the cause, manufacturers appear to be protecting themselves more than their customers (and pets). Pet owners don’t know if their pet should be treated by a vet – and the vet doesn’t even know where to begin to look for potential health issues. Personal opinion: it’s inexcusable.

Every time I read of these recalls my resolve strenghtens to continue home cooking for my two dogs. It’s a big undertaking – a double batch for two dogs every two weeks, both with different dietary needs. However, I buy all their meat from the local butcher, their fish comes non-frozen from the mornings catch, their eggs come direct from the farm and all their organic veg from my local grocery store. I add all the required supplements as directed by their Nutritionist. There are times when it would be so much easier to feed store bought food – but every time I read about a recall I vow to cook for them for as long as I possibly can.

This is inexcusable for a company to be run like this. The pain and suffering alone not to mention the vet bills that may happen is an abomination. I pray that no pets are harmed due to this. If so, I would consult my attorney.

Wow!The only thing different about all these foods is the ninth ingredient which is less than “flavour”. So there is more “flavour” than (lol!) “real” chicken, salmon, tuna, and there is NO beef-just beef flavour. With all the corn, wheat and soy in these products (for CATS!), I still think this is a great chicken feed (except for the price!)

We had to put our oldest cat to sleep 2 weeks ago due to liver failure. She was perfectly healthy and the next thing we know, she got deathly sick all of a sudden. I’ve been feeding my girls the Whiskas beef selections. Is this why my Charlie died??

Likely they say there were no complaints but that is bullshit. We have 4 cats the one that won’t eat the Whiskas is fine the other 3 have been puking all over the house

Susan, I agree that the reason for the pet food recall MUST be annotated in the recall.

Thank you for posting this. This did not come up in my recall alerts; when we continue to share information, we will be better able to help more pets.

They should be forced to announce the cause of recall. I bought a bag for my cats 2 weeks ago they have one serving left it is on the recall list. Not sure what to do besides wait and pray they don’t get sick. I have 3 furbabies so stressed right now what if it’s something serious am i at risk of losing my 3 babies?

They need to start saying where they are sourcing their products too as it seems an Australian product for cats was recalled due to health concerns and it was an overseas company producing some of the ingredients for their products which was later closed down. No doubt the same company will have moved to a new location and continues to produce the same stuff under a different name so the saying “buyer beware” comes to mind.

I hope karma gets everyone of those fat millionaires who own the mars company for putting our fur family members at risk of suffering or dying for profits….my cats have been throwing up too and a few haven’t come home now in days thinking they’re dead now in light of this recall,,,,and no issues from consumers yet? who can afford an autopsy on a pet ? to find out how they died,,,,there will be no consequences for the mars company im never buying there products anymore and we can only hope they go out of business,,,taking advantage of innocent beings is truly inrehansybil and despicable behaviour and needs to be punished criminally….how do you sleep at night knowing you’ve feed your babies poison and watch them slowly die, im depressed now and am feeling suicidal,,lord help me…..help us all…..

We feed our cats, whiskas with tuna. I didn’t see it on the recall list. But, my cats have been vomiting. Why is there no refund offered ? I know, the company won’t tell us, what’s in it, as they don’t want a law suit. It is also very hard to get a veterinarian on board, to say it was the food. I noticed a colour change in the food, about two months ago. My cats seemed to not like it as much anymore. I find these companies, change the ingredients too often. I have had a go around before, with a different company. I asked, why had they changed, the product. Her answer, ridiculous. She said, that, they did not change anything, but, only added to it. I said, that’s the same thing ? She kept repeating it was not. So big deal, they sent me two $10.00 off coupons. But, I was switching foods. Because my cats didn’t like the change, and I didn’t like the extra dandruff. This food was called, for stomach and healthy coat. Well the coat wasn’t looking good anymore. So now again, I’ll be on the hunt for a new food.

Just to note: your list doesn’t match the list at the Whiskas website. The Salmon was long-ago changed to Salmon with Shrimp, and apparently that’s the flavor recalled, not the Salmon on its own, which was discontinued early this year. My cat has been eating the Salmon (not with Shrimp, she hated that food) and the Tuna for two years and she’s fine. I haven’t looked at the Tuna bags because I only buy the 2kg bags (not listed for recall), and considering it’s a voluntary recall without compensation, I’m assuming it’s not serious, just a CYA thing.

I feed my cat Whiskas. Woke up this morning and my cat had vomited three times and had three bouts of Diarrhea over night. He’d been getting the odd sore on his skin for the past week or so. Not to mention, I currently feel naucious as well, and am currently I hadn’t come in contact with the Mycotoxins. I never felt the need to wash my hands after handling cat food.. and now I’m naucious.

I seriously hope that myself and my Cat are going to be alright. This is wrong on so many levels.

One of my female cats (about 10 years old) has recently, in the past two months, started getting lumps/nodules on her four inner breasts. “Mastitis” (not verified by Vet yet).. very strange as she’s never had any health issues before. Cancer? So, many things could have caused this condition. Hmmmm, maybe because I could not get the “Meaty” Selections in the 9.1kg bag from Walmart (Lethbridge, Alberta) and switched all 5 cats to the “Beefy” selections, never had to do this before either! Good Luck with your critters!!…MDB

Why is it I can only find chicken flavour hard cat food everywhere I go. My cats hate it. Even other brands have same problem. What do you do when your cats hate chicken?
