Support for pet owners when making end of life decisions for their pet.
There is no more difficult decision. And it’s difficult to find useful information about pet end of life decisions to guide you. Friend Nina Wolf hopes to help pet lovers in that difficult decision with her book ‘Saying Goodbye’. Nina has addressed the many concerns of euthanasia, giving pet owners sound advice.
Review from Dr. Karen Becker of ‘Saying Goodbye’:
“I was well acquainted with dying, death and grief long before I was a veterinarian from my work as a wildlife rehabilitator and as the medical technician at a kill shelter. I learned, early on, that one can die well or die poorly. Dying is inevitable, but how it happens really matters. A lot. I made it my goal, to the best of my ability, for the life around me to always die well. Unless you’ve been down this path you have no idea what I speak of, but it’s our goal to help you help your companion have as peaceful transition as possible. Sadly, vets aren’t trained to learn how to help animals die well, but this book will fill the gap. Saying Goodbye provides excellent tools to know what to do, and when to do it. This book won’t make the journey less painful, but will dramatically help the navigation process in knowing you’ve made the right decisions along the way…an invaluable gift when you need it most.”
My review of Saying Goodbye…
“This is a difficult subject, nothing easy about it. Making the decision to euthanize a pet is one of the most gut wrenching decisions a pet owner will face. When? What happens? We have many questions that are often not discussed in advance of the time a decision needs to be made. This book provides the answers to some very difficult questions; answers that are needed well in advance of decision making time. Nina Wolf has put together a very detailed book providing pet owners with a wealth of information to make an informed decision regarding the euthanasia of their pet. Unlike anything I’ve ever read, and something that every pet owner needs to read.”
Saying Goodbye includes interviews of numerous people, including myself. All offering personal experience, information, and advice on end of life decisions for your pet.
What Nina Wolf has done in Saying Goodbye is tremendous. We need to be informed pet owners, informed on everything about our pets; all through their life, and at the end of their life. A subject no one wants to talk about – Nina Wolf explains in a gentle, kind, and caring manner.

You are right-this is one of the hardest decisions to make. I know my kitties very well, and I can usually tell when they are ready to go–but not always. The only time I had any regrets was when I felt I waited a day or two too long–mainly because I wasn’t ready.

Doesn’t do me any good since I don’t have an Apple product so I suppose that all pet parents who are PC and Android users are just flat out of luck.

Donna, you will be encouraged to know that if you have itunes on your PC, you can view it on your PC. itunes is a free software you can download onto your PC. Then you can buy it like anything else on itunes. I can see how a person could get confused by the wording. What it meant was that it was also available on iphone, ipad, and Mac in addition to PC users. Take heart, you can still get it. 🙂

Donna, I apologize. You were correct! I looked further and was stunned to see that this is not even available in itunes. That is unusual and most unfortunate. There remain a lot of people who don’t have those items. Again, I apologize for not taking you at your word.

Hi folks…”Saying Goodbye” is available in iTunes, and i’m so sorry you are having trouble finding it! Try going to iTunes, search for “Saying Goodbye”, scroll down to the book area of the results, and click see all. It should be the second or third book in the list. PC users: you can have iTunes too! You don’t need an apple product. An apple ID is free, and then you can download from iTunes too. I will be putting this book in Amazon at some point, but not for another 6 months to a year, depending upon the legal agreements that Amazon requires. Please let me know if you have any problems downloading, and I’ll try to work them out for you. Thanks so much for your support, and hugs to all the dogs and cats and rabbits out there!

I again had to make “that” decision and on September 6 my Spikey cat was euthanized. it was the 9th time I had to do this in 15 years. loving our companions means having to make the hard decisions for them. imo, it is still better to have loved and lost than to never have loved. RIP Spikey. you live forever in my heart.
