Here’s two recipes from PAWsible Chef Dr. Cathy Alinovi just in time for Halloween.
Squash Bat
Ingredients:
1 pound winter squash or sweet potato
1-2 dried figs, diced
Peel squash or sweet potato. Cut into 2″ cubes. Boil in water until very tender. Drain. Beat with mixer until blended.
Line cookie sheet with parchment paper. Use a bat cookie mold and shape bats on parchment paper.
Dice dried figs. Place fig pieces for eyes.
Bake in 350F oven for 10-15 minutes until start to dry. Turn off oven, allowing bats to cool in oven for next hour.
Makes 6 – 4″ Squash Bats
Meatball Spider
Ingredients:
1 pound ground beef
1 egg, beaten
½ cup nut or sesame butter
2-3 dried figs, diced
Bacon cut into ¼” strips the long way
Combine ground beef and egg in a bowl. Form 3″ balls with the mixture. Place in bottom of a crock pot with ½” water. Cook on low for 2 hours.
Warm nut or sesame butter until runny. Spoon onto meatball to make a coating. Use 2 pieces of fig for eyes, pressing into nut butter.
Wind bacon loosely into a circle and lightly fry until cooked. Break off pieces of bacon in to 1-2″ lengths for legs. Press end of leg into nut butter.
Makes 8 – 3″ Meatball Spiders
