Response from President Biden

Here is the response I received from President Biden regarding the conditions of pet food in the US.

Here is the response I received from President Biden regarding the conditions of pet food in the US.

In March 2021 I sent a letter to the White House asking for help for millions of pet owners (Click Here to read). Below is the response I received.

This was the third President I’ve asked for help to improve the conditions of pet food in the US, and unfortunately this was the third President that did not step up to help. But…this was the first response I have received (from any politician) that seemed to speak to all of us – telling us to keep fighting the injustice of FDA selective enforcement of law. President Biden stated: “I encourage you to remain an active participant in helping write the next great chapter of the American story.”

Added after initial publishing: Because of so many readers emails, here is the response I received from President Obama: https://truthaboutpetfood.com/response-white-house/ (which is almost identical to President Biden’s response). And I did not receive a response from President Trump.

I’m sure many of you feel the same way I do – that we will continue to be ‘an active participant’ in the American pet food story. The FDA ignoring law in pet food, allowing illegal pet food products to be sold to unknowing consumers is unacceptable. No matter the obstacles in front of us, we will continue to stand up for our pets. They deserve better.

Wishing you and your pet(s) the best,

Sadly I feel this is a rubber stamp statement. It makes no reference of what the issue is other than the first line that states “animal rights”.
I do not feel this is an acknowledgement at all about the dog food industry and everyone that writes the President gets the same letter.

I agree. As a Canadian not interested in politics at all, this statement says nothing.

I fail to see where this form blather addressed the topic of pet food or the FDA. Other than a small reference to “animal rights”, this could have been a reply to a letter about just about anything at all. He’s not going to do anything. Neither political party will do anything. It takes getting the word out to pet food consumers to create a demand that any honest businesses will respond to. You have done more than most anyone in that regard. Unfortunately, too many people are too ignorant or cheap to make that demand. Out of the friends & family we have tried to convert, none were interested.

This is obviously a form letter. Take out the words “animal rights” in the first sentence and replace it with anything else. Chances are he never even knew about your letter. Sorry to be so negative, but sadly it’s true.

This is obviously a form letter. It doesn’t address the issue, but just a generic response. Don’t be encouraged, I’m sorry to say. It’s people like you that are tirelessly working that encourages me.

Thank you for everything you are doing for our pets. It’s disgusting what many pet food companies get away with.

It was gracious and authentic of you to post the reply.

But I hope it doesn’t attract political commentary here.

Of course you don’t have to post anything negative either.

Thank you for being the amazing beacon of Light for our beloved pets. Your unwavering dedication is seen and appreciated more than you know. Continue to spread the news, you are not alone, we are here with you!

This is a generic response. The first sentence appears to be addressing your individual concern since “animal rights” in included. But replace those two words with ANY other concern, no matter what it is, for example climate crisis, affordable college or even gun rights, and the rest of the message appears to be an appropriate positive response.

So kudos to whomever in the Biden administration is answering mail for even bothering to reply but it’s an empty response. The sad truth is that the only current way to change policy or create new laws is by lobbying Congress. And the lobbying group with the most money wins almost every time. In this case it’s the pet feed manufacturers. You will need very deep pockets.

So, you are happy with a form letter ?
I can just see the intern on the laptop .
    Enter “name” here.
    Enter “subject” here.
    Hit “send”
Better than nothing… but, not really.

Just so many empty words, nothing more.

Straight out of Obama’s Playbook. “not by just the example of our power but the power of our example”

  12. Patricia Williams

    June 3, 2021 at 11:50 am

The response was definitely not geared specifically to the concerns you contacted him about. It was a cookie cutter response to apply to any subject from anyone with an issue requesting his support. Whoever wrote his automated response must be somewhat lacking common sense to think we citizens/voters are so naive as to think Pres. Biden really cares – or even reads the correspondence he receives. He’s just another politician.

If it does not affect them then they will not help usually. I see the same crappy response every time I ask any senator or rep for help.

  14. Eve

    June 3, 2021 at 12:12 pm

That response had nothing to do with pet foods. It was simply a boilerplate response which had nothing to do with whether or not there would be an investigation, much less a resolution to the problem. Typical political blather that will take pet food requirements no where. Unfortunately this administration, or any other administration, will lean whichever way that gets them the most votes and currently it seems like Animal Rights organizations have done a far better job of bending their ear than Animal Welfare (including pet foods).

  15. Christine

    June 3, 2021 at 12:15 pm

Susan, this is just words. He didn’t even compose that letter. He could care less about pet food. I’m sure you are not fooled but one day, something is going to happen. We continue to pray and fight for what is right.

    • Gloria

      June 3, 2021 at 2:36 pm

Second paragraph: I assume that you meant to say “He could NOT care less about pet food”

I’m afraid that looks like any form letter sent out by some secretary. 🙁

Thanks for the work you do to keep the issues out there so at least concerned pet owners can make good decisions!

As long as we have politicians (both sides) who are more interested in profits that they have been bought by, I fear we won’t see change. That unfortunately includes the FDA. However, it’s imperative that we continue the fight for what’s right. Part of that entails holding these agencies and people accountable by exposing the truth. Susan, you have done phenomenal work at exposing the truth. You are the one that has been on the front lines fighting this and have many times paid a price yet you keep going. We who follow you and share your vision are deeply grateful.

    June 3, 2021 at 12:43 pm

This was a fluff reply. It said nothing and I am not surprised. It is a disgrace that you cannot get the government to enforce and/or change policies regarding the welfare of our animals. We are living in sad times. Thank you for keep trying. Maybe someday you will reach someone that will care.

  20. Kelley

    June 3, 2021 at 12:47 pm

How disappointing. A form letter. The President probably never saw your letter. It just got put into to the “animal rights” pile and assigned the appropriate form letter.

  21. Sally Arany

    June 3, 2021 at 12:50 pm

Susan, this response form letter could have been sent to anyone for any reason, as I’m sure you’ll agree. I wonder if you/we sent your/our letter(s) to Jill Biden, the answer might be more on topic. The Bidens at least have dogs, including one adopted.

I’m from the government and I’m here to help!! Remember that the federal governemnt has been in bed with BIG PHARMA, BIG AG, etc for eons!

Gubbernment advice for HUMANS has been framed by Big Ag.. and has been a bloody DISASTER! Hardly surprising that our pets are faring MUCH worse!

I avoid US-produced pet food for my 17 cats for a VERY good reason!

  23. Angela

    June 3, 2021 at 1:42 pm

Yes, it’s typical boiler plate response. One way to get action or bring the topic to the front is through State legislators, Senators, etc. and going as far as a petition on Facebook. I sign petitions all the time and they link my State Senators to the email so it gets forwarded to them.

  24. B Dawson

    June 3, 2021 at 2:06 pm

Should have been signed: the secretary’s secretary’ summer intern on behalf of Biden.

By using ‘animal rights’ the letter has now been filed in the same place that PETA and letters advocating vegetarian/vegan diets gets filed – the circular one (but at least it’s marked ‘recycle’ in this administration).

  25. Saba

    June 3, 2021 at 2:19 pm

Sad. Just a generic reply from a very powerful person who happens to be a dog owner nonetheless! No thought put into the reply whatsoever. In fact, this is coming from the PR office, not the prez himself. Disappointing. If we the people are to believe that our political engagement means anything in the grand scheme of things, thoughtless robotic responses from the higher eschelons of power do nothing to support that belief.

  26. Gloria

    June 3, 2021 at 2:35 pm

Nothing is said by Pres. Biden here. Just a brush-off and he will probably toss your letter in the round file.

  27. Linda

    June 3, 2021 at 3:04 pm

What a ridiculous, empty, laughable reply. Sadly, our politicians and governing agencies such as the FDA and AAFCO could care less how many pets are sickened or die at the hands of the pet food manufacturers. What’s even more disturbing to me in this day and time, is the indifference and ignorance of the vast majority of veterinary professionals when it comes to good nutrition. These “professionals” should be helping educate pet owners. Thank you for your efforts on behalf of all pet owners for what you are trying to accomplish.

  28. Wes Burke

    June 3, 2021 at 3:15 pm

I’m going to take the high road here, and be appreciative of the fact you received a reply—albeit extremely generic. While it’s truly disappointing regulators/regulatory agencies, politicians, and elected officials clearly don’t prioritize our furry companions, this will not stop me from advocating for my pets, their nutrition, and overall health. Let’s keep fighting the good fight—fighting for what is right and just.

  29. Fred W St Clair

    June 3, 2021 at 3:37 pm

He most assuredly did not answer you, and whomever did fed you a word salad. Biden has been a lying corporate shill his entire career. They used to call him Senator Credit Card for the legislation he pushed for MBNA. Before anyone jumps on me for being a right winger–which Grabby Joe really is BTW–I don’t like either of the parties as they only work for the oligarchs.

  30. Karen Dendy Smith

    June 3, 2021 at 4:36 pm

Sadly, this seems like a form letter… and most likely Pres. Biden doesn’t even know about the issue or his “response”… sigh. But I agree we need to keep fighting and educating pet parents, one by one. So we cannot have the wool pulled over our eyes.
Thank you so much, Susan, for leading this effort. Where would we be without you!

It’s time for a government office that just deals with domestic animal issues inclusive of cruelty to animals which toxic pet foods might fall into. Factory Farming might also be included, pet mills, etc.

    • Shay

      June 20, 2021 at 10:35 pm

Unfortunately, even if that were to happen, you would find that almost every dime of funding that would go into such a government program would first and foremost be devoured by Administrative costs and fees. O assure you, the janitor who cleans the halls of the building where that office would be would benefit more via weekly paycheck (paid out of those funds) than any animal or pet owner, who will ALWAYS be the last in line.
This is exactly why Child Protective Services is so egregiously failing our children. Every time there is a newsworthy story of another child who dies, either in state care or in a family involved with CPS, the end resolution is inevitably simply throw more money at it…money to pay the very same people who did not do their jobs sufficiently and allowed yet another child to fall through the cracks. They claim they are “overburdened” with caseloads and the government believes incentives and bonuses will correct the problem.
And just to make my point painfully valid, I once wrote a very detailed letter to the Obama WH, to address the issue. I cited my sources of information, many of which were government audits from several states, as well as news articles across the states, and a plethora of individual personal letters from parents whose families have been destroyed by wrongful acts and decisions of the agencies and courts, parents of children who did not survive, and even several accounts of children who had been left in dangerous homes and died because the agencies did nothing.
I received almost this exact same response. There was an inclusion at the end directing me to contact the State Bar Association and some state-run Legal Aid offices for help with my “legal issues”! It wasn’t even about ME! Whoever opened that letter had given a superficial glance and assumed they had all the information they needed to pick the form letter of response out of the file system, that was fulfilled by a mailroom aide and my letter was most likely sent directly through the shredder all in the same day.
The government has no more concern for the children who are not protected than they have for the pets we also hold dear. But there is PLENTY of money flowing through the system and it ends up in the form of payoffs, kickbacks, compliance, etc. NONE of it goes to the cause aside from hiring administrators & supervisors, who receive comfortably furnished offices with their names and titles stenciled on the doors, caseworkers, who are quickly instructed to follow a stringent protocol to handle every case that ensures their qualified immunity should something go wrong and bonuses for quotas that earn the agencies additional funding to handle the ever-increasing caseloads that will be blames for the horror stories that come to light. There is no one in government that cares about us or our kids or our pets, especially if there is ANY chance that drawing attention to it could result in a decrease in their personal benefit package.

You actually believe Biden sent you this? LOL! It was some clerk answering with nonsensical platitudes as usual. The average person stands behind everything you do, organize and get signatures on a petition DEMANDING something be done, not only about foods but the vaccines and other chemicals that kill our pets and give them diseases, it’s time the entire practice of caring for pets change and get up to date. Encourage people to call their reps and do not let up the pressure. MAKE NOISE Thank you for all you do Susan!

  33. Mary

    June 3, 2021 at 6:55 pm

So sorry the WH reply was truly disappointing. It sounded like a form letter and did not address your concern at all. Perhaps what may need to happen is to take your letter, Susan, and all of us send it in to the WH in droves. Maybe just maybe we may get another response.

    • Pam Norris

      June 4, 2021 at 5:56 pm

I sent an email letter the same time Susan did, and I received the exact same form letter response. I’m sure I wasn’t the only one who supported Susan with this, so a mass mailing did no good. I’m grateful for all that Susan does for all of us animal lovers. At least she keeps us informed. I think it’s safe to say that government doesn’t care.

A “nothing burger” from an empty headed administration! I assume you too know this only too well from your history working with these clowns and they come in many colors (political parties).

  35. A Lover of Fur Children

I think Biden might care if HE got it directly. But because of the fact that it was probably viewed by some secretary or something who deemed it to not be important, I don’t think anything will be changed.

  36. Pet health transparency and freedom

    June 7, 2021 at 3:11 pm

Good to get a reply. This way we can plainly see this administration does not care, just like all the others.
And, they will not care until enough – whatever that threshold may be – people complain.

Complaints have to be directed to multiple recipients, on an ongoing basis:
federal government agencies and departments; local level governments; the corporations that sell products; the animal medical and feed community (after all, they perpetuate this more than any other organization…with a flip of proverbial switch, they could change the whole climate on pet care); and by consistently alerting the media of our displeasure and of our concerns.
