Were Purina Pet Foods Dumped Off-Site at an unaffiliated Nestle Business?

Is there a problem being hidden from pet owners or is it an innocent situation?

Note: We do not know if the information in this post is a pet food concern or an innocent situation.

Federal law requires pet food manufacturers to notify the FDA within 24 hours of a problem with a pet food. Classified as a “reportable food”, defined as: “A ‘reportable food’ is an article of food for which there is a reasonable probability that the use of, or exposure to, such article of food will cause serious adverse health consequences or death to humans or animals.”

TruthaboutPetFood.com was alerted to a large disposal of pet food. The following images were posted in the Saving Pets One Pet at a Time Facebook page:

There appears to be five dumpsters full of large bags of pet food. If you look to the far right of the image, the image appears to contain at least one more dumpster full of pet food. Blow up of that section below.

A closer look…

And a close up (picture taken of two of the dumped bags in the back of a pickup truck):

These pictures were posted a few days ago (November 8, 2025) and the poster stated “Does anyone know what’s going on with Purina One Adult Large Breed food? My husband sent these photos from a job site. It’s been going on for 5 days. These are taken in Illinois.” Information was also provided that the Best By date on these pet foods was “2/27”. They are not expired pet foods.

We were told the pet food was being disposed of in Franklin Park, IL.

Purina does not have a pet food manufacturing plant in or near Franklin Park, IL.

BUT…Purina’s parent company Nestle does have a human food/supplement business in Franklin Park, IL. Nestle owned Vital Proteins (a collagen product) is located at “3400 Wolf Rd Ste 200, Franklin Park, IL 60131”.

Side by side photos of the image of the dumpsters full of Purina One pet foods and the Nestle Vital Proteins facility appear to indicate they are the same location.

Again…there is NO Purina pet food manufacturing facility at this location. Thus we assume this pet food was shipped and unloaded into dumpsters at the Nestle Vital Proteins plant.

Did Purina PetCare dispose of pet food at a corporate location – outside of any pet food manufacturing facility?

Are they hiding something OR is there an innocent explanation?

If we learn more information, it will be shared.

Thank you to the pet owner who shared these pictures and thank you to Saving Pets One Pet at a Time for giving pet owners a place to share information.

Same as Susan I don’t know what’s going on here but did a quick search and found this – a very recent $500 million Vital Proteins class action suit due to “lead contaminated collagen”.

Ugh I use Vital Proteins collagen. Thanks. Guess it’s time to find a new brand.

    An honest mistake:
perfectly good pet “food” is picked up at the Purina plant to be delivered to one or more businesses to sell it. Or perhaps to animal shelters to feed the dogs in their care. The careless driver made a mistake, or perhaps just didn’t feel like it, took a shortcut to the Vital Proteins facility and dumped the load there. Just by coincidence the driver came upon 5 or 6 empty dumpsters and managed to transfer all these bags to the dumpsters. All by himself and nobody noticed and interferred. The intended recipients didn’t notice their food was not being delivered. I mean, little oopsies do happen. Packages do get lost. Sure, all perfectly innocent. It could just be a temporary storage place until somebody will come by and re-load all bags to deliver them to the proper place.

It would be cynical to assume the worst. To assume there was a major problem with the contents of these bags and they had to disappear lest some whistleblower gets some ideas. That the problem is significant enough to forego the profits from the sale of these bags and instead invest into the disappearance and eventually pay Republic Services for dumping it at a landfill. Maybe these dumpsters are always there and maybe they were ordered just for this purpose?

I assume nefarious activity until proven otherwise.

Sounds like trying to get rid of a load of spoiled pet toxic kibble. I do not feed this stuff to pets if I can avoid it. I try to feed real meat, veggies and appropriate pet supplement powder. Lots of kibble has mold in it, saw a video just last week, testing to find mold in many commercial pet food brands.

As a dog owner, you can try to keep up with the latest recalls, AAFCO definitions and FDA failures with respect to commercial kibble or you can just bypass all that noise and feed your dog real, fresh, human grade, homemade food just as you feed yourself. It’s really quite simple. There are balanced recipes available online or you can buy a recipe book from a reputable source like Karen Becker, DVM and Rodney Habib; Judy Morgan, DVM or Cam Whimble a dog nutritionist on YouTube. Seriously, you play Russian Roulette every time you feed your dog a food from Purina, Mars or the other big corporations as I learned the hard way: I lost one of my dogs to kidney failure from vitamin D overdosing in Science Diet Z/d hydrolyzed canned food. The ironic thing is that I have always been a fresh feeding fanatic with my dogs and knew that all of these commercial foods are lousy for long term feeding. But, I kept cans of the Z/d on hand to use when my one dog got severe colitis which occurred about twice a year. So, the moral of the story is that even if you understand that kibble feeding is long term unhealthy, it is also important to understand that a one time feeding can cause permanent harm or even death.
