Dr. Karen Becker and Rodney Habib’s first book – The Forever Dog – was published in more than 20 languages and became a best seller all over the world. I personally have this book (actually 3 copies to loan out to friends), and consult it often. It’s hard to believe that these two consumer advocates could out-do themselves on a second book…but they have, in a BIG way.
Their second book is titled The Forever Dog Life. If you are a cat person, don’t let the title of the book sway you away from it. The book has SO MANY things to benefit both cats and dogs. Such as…
For cats and dogs – there are dozens of treat recipes that are health promoting, treats with a purpose.
For cats and dogs – there are complete and balanced food recipes, each explained with great detail so that even an inexperienced home-cook can prepare them. The book explains the kitchen tools you’ll need, the best food storage products. The recipes are formulated for high energy to low energy needs, and provide (again) detailed easy to understand instructions on how much food to provide your pet to meet their specific needs. There is even a QR code in the book to gain access to hundreds of more recipes online.
Never missing any piece of the whole puzzle of taking the best care of our pets, The Forever Dog Life includes many recipes for safe household cleaners, pet shampoos (including safe home-made flea shampoo), eye wash, ear cleaner, mosquito spray, and on and on.
Most pet owners know why they need to make changes in their pet’s food or in the home, but the ‘how’ seems overwhelming. Many never take that first step because they don’t know where to find the information they need, or they find it and it’s just too complicated to tackle.
Now you have easy access to high quality recipes, prepared in a simple to understand and simple to implement manner.
The book is beautiful, the information is beyond wonderful and needed. I highly recommend this book to anyone that wants to do better for their pets. Whether you just want to provide your pet some healthier treats or whether you want to go all in – food, treats, cleaning products – this is the book for you.
Personal note: The authors of this book are friends – the best of friends. This book review was NOT requested by either of them. They are so smart, so skilled, so informed – they don’t need to ask for reviews from their friends. I’ve had my copy of Forever Dog Life for a couple of weeks…and I waited to write about it until I read it. As I’m confident many others will find, when you read their work, and you care about pets/doing better for pets – it is just a natural reaction to want to share the book with others. My two cents…get this book.
Wishing you and your pet(s) the best,
Susan Thixton

I have both books and I totally agree. Since taking their advise, my dog’s allergies have improved significantly and I am no longer having to give him apoquel. I’m having a fun time making the frozen treats for him now which he loves. Thanks for all you do.

Amen! This book is nothing short of revolutionary and should put to rest the question of what and how to feed our companion animals in a way that is accessible and affordable. Huge thanks to Dr. Becker and Rodney Habib.

Hello…Sounds like two great sources of information…however, nowhere in this ad is there a price for either book! I reread the information and no, I didn’t miss it so, what’s up? Do I click through each bookseller listed to find which one has the best offer? I did read a comment by someone asking why it was so expensive and again no mention of “how expensive” is expensive? What else is a “marketing” method of delivering information going on here. I think I will buy it from my own home town bookseller and support my community so I can actually take a look at it first as there are so many dog cook books out there. A great one is included in Dr. Richard Pitcairn’s natural healing book. Thank you…Sharon

Thank you for sharing this!! I’ve been off social media for a long time now – I bet Rodney and Dr Becker have plastered it all over Instagram or something. I love them, I treasure that first book and I must get this new one! Thank you for being AWESOME, Susan!

It is a fantastic book, well thought out. Except the food recipes do not include any guaranteed analysis. So I have no idea what the protein, fat, fiber, etc. content is.
If you have a pet with special needs, as I do. I need to know this information.

I agree about needing the guaranteed analysis as I also need to know for my liver compromised dog. But I want to look at the book anyway, so many good reviews!

I was already just saying no to over-vaxxing and commercial pet foods, and now for years home-prepping my dogs’ food with the help of a holistic veterinarian. Bought the first book, rereading it now. Just ordered the new book. Thank you Susan for continuing to bring REALLY good vitally important information to the attention of not only those of us who for decades have been deeply concerned about commercial pet (and livestock) food but to people looking to make a change.
