Iams Recall

Thanks to TAPF friend the Food Bug Lady, there seems to be an Iams pet food recall.

Thanks to TAPF friend the Food Bug Lady (aka Phyllis Entis/ http://efoodalert.wordpress.com/2011/11/25/recalls-and-alerts-november-25-2011-2/), there seems to be an Iams pet food recall.  I could find no notice of this on the Iams website or the FDA website.  Here are the details…

The Price Chopper website states the following…
“Select Varieties Iams Pet Foods (recalled Nov. 25, 2011)
Iams Original with Chicken Cat Food
UPC 1901403915
Lot Number 12794177D3
Size 6.8 lbs.

Iams Original with Chicken Cat Food
UPC 1901410504
Lot Number 12794177I5
Size 4 lbs.

Iams Lamb Meal with Rice Dog Food
UPC 1901403735
Lot Number 12794177J4
Size 15 lbs.

Reason for Recall:
The product is being recalled due to elevated aflotoxin levels.”

Note:  The above notice was removed from the Price Chopper website Sunday 11/27/11 – two days after it was posted.  With a phone call to Iams on Monday 11/27, I learned this was not a recall – it was a “product pull”.

‘Elevated aflatoxin levels’ could be a very dangerous situation.
