While Updating Consumers to Other Food Issues, FDA Remains Silent on Pet Food Issues

The predictable behavior of FDA and pet food continues.

The FDA has issued two public alerts within four days regarding a human food product that has been linked to 12 human illnesses.

The FDA has issued ZERO public alerts regarding pet food products that resulted in 971 illness reports (to FDA) in one month, including more than 100 pet deaths in the same one month time frame.

Despite multiple email requests, Freedom of Information Act requests, and even submitting a Citizen Petition for more information – the FDA has completely refused to give pet owners information to why so many pets have become ill and died.

We have to wonder…

If the pet foods involved in the 971 illness reports in one month were raw pet food…we speculate that FDA would have issued multiple public alerts within days of illness reports being received. History has shown us that the agency has taken prompt and public action against multiple raw pet food manufacturers (often stepping outside of their regulatory boundaries to do so).

What we don’t have to wonder about…

The FDA has double standards. They actively and promptly alert the public to some foods, but completely ignore others – even when they receive 971 illness reports and more than 100 deaths in one month.

Sadly, the FDA’s actions these days are almost predictable. If it is raw pet food or a human food…we’re going to see Warning Letters and Public Alerts. But if it is a major kibble pet food manufacturer…nothing.

Concerning. Who is the FDA actually protecting?

Wishing you and your pet(s) the best,

I’m sick of the FDA not doing anything for our pets! I constantly check all dog and cat foods, including asking what is in them from the companies. I think I will have to start making our own pet food.
