‘We’ did it! New Jersey has reversed their position against raw milk pet products.
In January 2019, the New Jersey Health Department over-stepped their regulatory boundaries when the non-pet food authority confiscated raw milk pet products in multiple pet food stores and issued a “Stop Distribution” order on raw milk pet products to area pet food distributors. The facts that New Jersey ignored were…
- The NJ Health Department had no jurisdiction over pet products in the state, that is NJ Department of Agriculture’s authority.
- The NJ Health Department used human food laws to confiscate and stop distribution of pet food products, they ignored laws that are specific to pet products.
Pet owners, retailers, a pet food (actual food – not feed) trade association, several attorneys, and a consumer advocate challenged New Jersey from the moment we learned what was happening. It took four months, a lot of phone calls and emails, and even a rally event in New Jersey. But…we did it.
New Jersey has just rescinded the Stop Distribution order and will once again allow raw milk pet products to be sold in the state.
This was certainly a team effort. Congrats to everyone involved. And thank you to New Jersey for coming to your senses.
Wishing you and your pet(s) the best,

We raised dairy goats for years. My family, cats and dogs all consumed raw milk and raw milk cheese that I made. My nephew’s cat had digestive issues and the one thing that didn’t upset his stomach was my goat chevre cheese. Thank you for working to keep raw milk available for pets!

Now someone needs to pay for all that milk the NJ Dept of Health destroyed. There’s nothing like government officials wearing big egos giving them the impression they have power they don’t.
