Raw Milk is a health promoting addition to your pet’s diet

So why are regulatory authorities stopping the sale of raw milk pet products?

This past Saturday a very unique event was held in Branchburg, New Jersey. The event was called Pet Food Justice, developed as sort of a protest to the recent illegal actions taken by the state of New Jersey preventing the sale of raw milk for pets.

Before we consider the concerning actions taken by multiple states against the sale of raw milk for pets, below are the proven safety and the proven health benefits of raw milk borrowed from the Weston A. Price Foundation’s RealMilk.com website. To view the entire slide presentation, Click Here.

To respond to the question of is raw milk/unpasteurized milk safe?…

Raw milk contains natural defenses against pathogenic bacteria, Lactoperoxidase and Lactoferrin:

And pathogen control has been tested with raw milk, again and again…

And the health benefits of raw milk have been documented for decades.

And a very interesting aspect of raw milk is the easy digestion.

The above is just a tiny portion of the science proving the safety and health benefits of raw milk. For more information on raw milk, visit:

RealMilk.com

and FarmtoConsumer.org

Despite all of the above (and so much more) scientific evidence to the safety and health benefits of raw milk, in most states raw milk is illegal to purchase for human consumption. Despite all of the above, New Jersey still has in place a raw milk pet product Stop Distribution order to multiple pet food distributors even though raw milk pet products are allowed through commercial feed laws. To read more about what happened in New Jersey, Click Here.

New Jersey pet owners can send an email of protest or call to share their concern:
Alan Talarsky
609-826-4935
alan.talarsky@doh.nj.gov

Please ask Mr. Talarsky to rescind the stop distribution order issued by the New Jersey Health Department for raw milk pet products.

And we have recently learned other states are taking similar actions against raw milk pet products as in New Jersey. More details will be provided when more is learned. But to the current understanding of the issue, another state is applying human food law to one single pet product – raw milk. We believe that just like in New Jersey, at least one and possibly another state is ignoring the commercial feed laws of their state and applying human food laws to ban the sale of raw milk pet products. Picking and choosing what laws they enforce and when they enforce.

Pet owners in all other states are encouraged to tell their own State Department of Agriculture they want raw milk pet products to continue to be available in their state. Please speak up on this issue – don’t wait until a problem arises as it did in New Jersey. Tell your state authorities you want to continue to have access to raw milk for your pets. This is outrageous. ..I regularly purchase Answers raw fermenented goats milk for my senior and my lepto survivor dog. Unblieveable! This product along with raw cow milk kefir are such an excellent food source for dogs and cats. Am I going to have to have my own goat and cow now to get these valuable food sources? If so,then yes.

I still don’t buy that these products pass the “species” barrier but the only reason anyone would care to ban them is because it is hurting some “big dog” in the pocketbook

Very much agree. Just a footnote, …. some cats (like some humans) have lactose intolerance. I don’t know if raw cow’s milk would trigger an intolerance issue in these cats. I believe there may be certain alternatives such as Kefir, goat’s milk, lactase enzyme supplements and/or certain probiotics that contain Lactobacillus bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophilus can help cats with intolerance, but I’m not an expert in this area.

Raw dairy has lactase. Pasteurization is what kills that and other enzymes.

If you can find a farmer with an all A1-A1 herd, you may find that lactose intolerance disappears. This is the original domesticated bovine, and the milk is especially prized for its easy absorption. Google A1-A1 dairy – it’s quite interesting. My dogs get “dognog” as a pre-breakfast every other day – a raw egg beaten in raw milk, which they love. No tummy issues at all, although they used not to tolerate pasteurized dairy products.

In my comment below, I meant to say, find A2 – A2 milk. Regular milk has both A1 and A2 – variations in the protein form. A2 is the preferred. soory for the typo!

One of the best, most health and life affirming things you can do for yourself and your pets is to support local raw milk dairies. In states where they are effectively banned from retail sales, you can get around it by becoming a herd-share member. This means you own a share of a cow, and as owner, you are entitled to get the milk from your own cows. Our store is a pick up point for our local dairy, which raises A2-A2 certified cows. Members pay a membership fee to join, once, then pay for each product they purchase. You can get milk, cream, yogurt, sour cream, butter, kefir. They also have a CSA program for produce, and raise chickens for eggs. They raise some meat animals, too, and herd share members can order at reasonable prices. It feels good to support these farmers. You can imagine how many hurdles the bureaucracy puts in front of them, which have little to do with the safety or value of their products. You can find these farmers by asking around local food coops and any organic agriculture organizations in your area. They are in this with us and need and deserve our support. And we get to enjoy guilt-free healthy, wholesome products we can share with our pets.

Don’t try this in Michigan. Not so long ago, such a farm was raided and everything was dumped. I think that may have included eggs as well. These big corporations will not tolerate any competition. The epitome of how capitalism doesn’t work in the long run and the concept of getting ahead by hard work has become laughable.

Thank you for traveling to NJ to help us with this issue. I do not understand how the Dept of Health has the jurisdiction to go into pet supply stores and control products marked Not for human consumption!

Big Pet Food doesn’t like raw anything intended for direct consumption because it must be obtained from quality suppliers and treated with respect until it’s eaten. Big Pet Food prefers to sterilize garbage, add nutrients from chemical sources and top it off with preservatives because that process is far more lucrative. Our cat eats raw because her health is more important to our family than Big Pet Food’s bottom line.

You do realize that food is chemicals, right? Everything is a chemical.

I suspect that you know exactly what J King meant. If you don’t, then you need to learn more about food and the difference between the nutrients obtained in food and nutrients from non-food sources. Not to mention the obvious danger of using non-food sources of vitamins that is currently killing and sickening dogs courtesy of Hill’s.

I believe that raw milk should be available for pets and emancipated adults but not children. There is a very good reason why pasteurization of milk was put in place. “In 1938, milkborne outbreaks constituted approximately 25 percent of all disease outbreaks from contaminated food and water. As of 2002, that figure was down to about 1 percent.” https://marlerclark.com/pdfs/raw-milk-jeh.pdf For a ongoing list of all the current deaths and serious illness caused by raw milk scroll this page: https://www.foodsafetynews.com/?s=raw+milk+illness. And don’t forget we are now talking about milk contaminated with superbugs that weren’t around even 50 years ago. There are producers who are doing “hold and test” BEFORE selling their raw milk products and those are the ONLY ones I’d recommend. Any other source (99% of them) and you are playing Russian roulette. Read that link above and Good luck!

I have been drinking raw milk, both goat and cow, for close to 20 years. I give a little to my dog every day. I’m in Indiana which has a cow share program. Basically I own part of a cow/goat so I can drink it legally. I c e haven’t had a cold or allergies in years…course we also eat organic from my garden, have my own chickens, and buy meat from a local grass farmer
