Pet Food News

New Orleans Anyone?

This is a plea to all pet food consumers, pet food safety advocates, veterinarians, and just plain ol’ pet lovers…please consider attending AAFCO meetings. The next one is in January in New Orleans.

This is a plea to all pet food consumers, pet food safety advocates, veterinarians, and just plain ol’ pet lovers…please consider attending AAFCO meetings.  The next one is in January in New Orleans.  To change the future of pet food, we need more voices at regulatory meetings.

We are outnumbered at more than 100 to 1.  At the last AAFCO meeting (August 2013 in St. Petersburg, FL) there were hundreds of industry representatives and just two consumer representatives (Dr. Jean Hofve and myself).  This needs to change.

The next AAFCO meeting is in New Orleans, LA from January 8th to 10th, 2014.  We want YOU there!  I know it’s expensive, I know it’s not the most fun trip on the planet…but we need more consumer voices.  Hey…it’s New Orleans…how bad can it be?

There will be three of ‘us’ that will be in New Orleans so far; Mollie Morrissette, Dr. Jean Hofve, and myself.  Who can we add to that list?

Suggestions…
Any Pet Food Consumer
Independent Pet Store Owners
Veterinarians
Dog Trainers
Groomers
Pet Bloggers
Pet Journalists

And while we’re at it…
Quality minded pet food manufacturers
Quality minded pet food ingredient suppliers
Food Safety Advocates (human food or pet food)

Imagine how things could change if at every AAFCO meeting there were numerous veterinarians that could give first hand experience to the health conditions of pets eating waste ingredients.  Groomers and trainers that spoke up about behavior changes and skin and coat improvements seen when a healthier food is provided.  Bloggers and journalists there sharing the pet food/animal food regulatory truth to more readers.  Imagine if quality minded pet food manufacturers using human grade ingredients banded together two times a year and provided their input to regulatory authorities.  And imagine if there were hundreds of ‘us’ there – working together to change the future of all food.

Several years ago I attended my first AAFCO meeting thanks to all of you – your donations got me there.  I’ve been back every year since representing you.  Now I’m asking for your help again.  This time we need you at the AAFCO meeting.  You, your vet, your pet store owner, your groomer, trainer, even your pet food manufacturer to attend AAFCO meetings and be part of the future of pet food.

Let’s meet in New Orleans.  And in Sacramento California for the next meeting in July 2014.  And lets meet at every AAFCO meeting from here on.  Let’s work together to change the future of pet food.

Here is the link to the AAFCO page on the January meeting in New Orleans:  http://www.aafco.org/Meetings/MidyearMeetings/2014.aspx  No information to hotel has been posted yet – I assume it will be soon and on this page when it is listed.

Please contact me if you are attending (I’ll remain hopeful I’ll receive a lot of emails!).

Wishing you and your pet(s) the best,

Sick Pet Caused by a Pet Food?

If your pet has become sick or has died you believe is linked to a pet food, it is important to report the issue to FDA and your State Department of Agriculture.
