Great Video about Chemical Contamination Game

From HealthyStuff.org, a fantastic video encouraging consumers to write Congress asking to strengthen the Safe Chemicals Act. While there is no mention of pets, when you watch (and read) the video, you’ll quickly see how are pets are of concern too.

You can send your Representatives in Congress an email regarding the Safe Chemicals Act by going to http://salsa.democracyinaction.org/o/1421/p/dia/action/public/?action_KEY=3000
and entering your zip code.

By the way, I sent my Representatives in Congress an email through the HealthyStuff.org website, and received a “Mailbox is Full” reply from Senator LeMieux – Florida (can you believe that?).  I received the following reply from Senator Bill Nelson…(bolded font was added by me)…
Dear Ms. Thixton:

Thank you for contacting me regarding S. 3209, the Safe Chemicals Act.

This legislation would require the safety testing of all industrial chemicals. Under current policy, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) can only call for safety testing of a chemical after evidence demonstrates it is dangerous. The legislation also would require manufacturers to submit information proving the safety of every chemical during production and before entering the market.

As our understanding of the dangers of exposure to chemicals has grown, the EPA’s ability to properly regulate chemicals under Toxic Substance Chemical Act has come into question. As a member of the Senate Commerce Committee, the safety of consumer products, especially those intended for children, is one of my top priorities. I am dedicated to ensuring that our families and our communities are protected from harmful chemicals and toxins. That is why today I continue to fight to protect the public from exposure to harmful chemicals and toxins, whether from Superfund sites, arsenic in the water, lead in toys, or toxic Chinese drywall.

The Safe Chemicals Act is pending before the Senate Committee on the Environment and Public Works. I will be sure to keep your views in mind if it reaches the Senate floor. Please feel free to contact me in the future regarding any other issue of concern.

Sincerely,
Senator Bill Nelson

What a sad and frightening consideration that our regulatory agency can ‘only call for safety testing of a chemical AFTER evidence demonstrates it is dangerous’.  Let’s let people or animals die first, then reconsider safety issues.  Comforting isn’t it?

It is LONG past time that industry is stopped from running our country.  Squeaky wheel; please keep squeaking!

Wishing you and your pet(s) the best,

Susan Thixton
