General Mills to Purchase Tiki Dog and Cat Foods

Another small brand purchased.

Per the press release, “General Mills said on Thursday it would buy Whitebridge Pet Brands’ North American premium cat feeding and pet treating business in a transaction valued at $1.45 billion to broaden its portfolio and strengthen its pet food business.”

General Mills said the deal would help it focus on its core brands such as Cocoa Puffs and Cheerios along with its pet food business to drive steady sales growth.”

The most familiar brand from Whitebridge Pet Brands – involved in this General Mills purchase – is Tiki Pets. Other pet food/treat brands owned by General Mills are Blue Buffalo, Nudges, Top Chews and True Chews, Fera Pets, and Edgard & Cooper.

This is so sad. I’ve long relied on many of the Tiki Cats products because they were of much higher quality than other cat foods. Before long, they’ll just be another brand selling garbage masquerading as food. Pathetic.

Nooooooo I just found the After Dark series and the Luau series for a lost cat that adopted us. I haven’t had any luck getting her over to raw yet and hoped this would work while I work on that. They have to ruin everything. I don’t really know that much about cats except they do better on a wet diet but she’s not crazy about pate. Dang

Our cats like the Tiki After Dark also. The other brand they really like that has lots of choices and so far is still family owned is Weruva.

Thank you, I’ll take a look at that brand too. It’s so frustrating when they do this. I spent a lot of time trying to research better quality cat food. I am aware of feeding dogs, mine eat raw, but cats are a new territory for me and even though she’s a lost or stray cat I can’t just feed her junk or just kibble. Grrrrr

My friend Jim, now deceased, helped take care of a feral cat community. He would feed Weruva and Tiki Cat and Fromm’s.

Wow, excellent! I’m getting grief for trying to feed her well, Friskies they say, not. I am using ND and Fromm for some kibble during the day. I have heard though people say the worst wet food is better than the best dry food because of the moisture. Well, guess we’re getting off track and unfortunately there’s not much we can do but not support them. Stock up and keep an eye on the formula

Maybe buy in a good stock of Tiki before General Mills makes any changes?

Sue… “Maybe buy in a good stock of Tiki before General Mills makes any changes?”

I have used senior cat canned recipe I am concerned that the transition has already started (behind the scenes) and the recipe has already been adulterated or manipulated. We will never be told.

Oh well another good brand shot to hell. Soon they will all be garbage. The good list keeps getting smaller.

I only was feeding Tiki when I was traveling with my pets. Now I will not. I will purchase a 12 v refrigerator and I will feed my home made dog food.

    Sad . Oh well

Oh yay! Every pet I’ve ever had simply thrived on Cocoa Puffs and Cheerios… NOT! This is a red flag statement if ever was, to help bolster their cereal sales?! Bad words starting to surface…I’ll exit now.
