VeggieDent Dog Chews, manufactured by Virbac Animal Health, have been taken off the market in Australia following reports of kidney problems in dogs that had consumed them. Virbac Animal Health removed the treats from Australian store shelves until further notice.
VinNews.com states a potential problem with VeggieDents Dog Chews was recognized in May by veterinarian researchers. Symptoms, similar to chews made in China that sickened pets in the US and Australia last year, include excessive drinking of water, and frequent urination. VeggieDents, are made in Vietnam (ingredients also originate from Vietnam) and continue to sell in the US, Asia, and Europe.
“The company instructed veterinarians in Australia to pull all stock from their shelves and return it to their wholesalers for credit. Virbac also advised veterinarians to dispose of marketing material, and to contact at their discretion the owners of dogs that use VeggieDents.” http://news.vin.com/vinnews.aspx?articleId=13071
Dr. Gerard Lim of Virbac Australia states that no reports of sick pets have been provided to the company except in Australia, alluding that perhaps Australia’s irradiation requirement to be the cause of pet illnesses. “The Australian government last week banned irradiation of cat food because of scientific evidence that the sterilization process was somehow to blame for neurological problems,…., seen in some cats that ate Orijen brand irradiated dry food made by Champion Pet Foods Ltd. However, dogs fed similarly irradiated food were not know to be affected.”
Here is a very interesting article explaining some of the confusing information known about irradiation of pet foods: http://news.vin.com/VINNews.aspx?articleId=13088

How did these product go through this far? it only endangered our pets. The more cheaper it is the more dangerous nowadays even labels cannot be trusted. We at http://shootthedog.com.au/ strongly suggest to check your pet food if its natural or with added extra mix. We are very afraid for our four legged friends.
