I’m getting more and more bumfuzzled with the salmonella contamination. Food sterilization with irradiation had been around for a long time and is not very expensive.

“Food irradiation (the application of ionizing radiation to food) is a technology that improves the safety and extends the shelf life of foods by reducing or eliminating microorganisms and insects. Like pasteurizing milk and canning fruits and vegetables, irradiation can make food safer for the consumer.” Jan 4, 2018

Why isn’t it being used? This seems like pure negligence.

Irradiation alters foods quite a bit. As example – in 2008 the Champion pet food exported into Australia was irradiated and it destroyed the vitamins in the food, caused many cat illnesses. Me personally – I would not give my own pets an irradiated food.

Thanks for the info. Susan. I wasn’t aware that irradiated food could have vitamin deficiency.

Please NOTE: Bravo Pet Foods (of Manchester, CT) is NOT Bravo Packing of NJ. It is the NJ-based Bravo PACKING that has issued the recall, not Bravo Pet Foods. Bravo Pet Foods has NO association with Bravo Packing in any way.

Thanks for your comment Melinda – the press release did not explain that.

Thanks Susan. Is this Bravo Packing the same company as Bravo Pet Foods? I have tried to figure it out but have not been able to.

    1. Susan Thixton Author

No – per Bravo Pet Foods this recall is not them. This is for a separate/different Bravo.

On September 12, the FDA issued a recall for the raw “Performance Dog Food” made
by Bravo Packing in Carney’s Point, NJ.
Bravo Pet Foods has NO relationship of any kind with Bravo Packing.
Please advise your associates and customers of this fact to avoid any possible
confusion with Bravo Pet Foods or its products.
We appreciate your help with this matter.

The Bravo vs Bravo confusion is made even more confusing because Bravo Pet Food started out as a meat (for people) processor. I just had some dealings with Bravo Pet Food about some rabbit cat food with which I had some concerns. I must say I have never had such a prompt, helpful, courteous, and no-hassle resolution to an issue. Bravo to Priscilla their customer service rep.
