Casey Update 3/4/10

My house is full of convalescing weenie dogs – I have three in various stages of rehabilitation and one ability they all have in common is they can bark …and then howl… and then the rest of the pack joins in and for a few minutes, a couple of times a day, this stops traffic on my otherwise quiet street.

Guess who is leading the song fest? Yep, our boy Casey. He is feeling fantastic and enjoying the sunny pre-spring days roaming the back yard.

This morning, he weighed in at 21.4 pounds – but he hopped – okay – hefted himself up on the scale. I think he even smiled.

I adjusted Casey again and although he snarked a bit, I think it was a case of “hurts so good”, because he toddled around with curiosity and licked a lot at my assistant after we finished.

When I met Casey on his first visit to the clinic, he couldn’t walk, knuckled over on his front feet and fell on his side. He has been mobile for a week now without ANY of these issues presenting.

His mom and dad are excited to pick Casey up come Monday afternoon. They have scheduled an appointment just to make sure they cover all the bases on food, nutrition and staying on this road to better health. In fact, both mom and dad have committed to taking twice daily walks so maybe we’ll see an improvement in their health too.

I’m going to miss Casey when he goes home next week. He was a gentleman throughout his entire stay and his courage and perseverance inspired us all. My daughter Natalie, however, may miss him the most. He liked to play house and snuggle up on Giant Pillow Mountain to watch movies with the family.
