Update Pet Food Recall First Alert
Two more Pet Food Companies have joined our cause. Solid Gold Pet Foods and Dogswell Pet Foods have agreed to our plan. Plus, I’d like to clear the air a bit; please read.
I’m very happy to report that Solid Gold Pet Foods and Dogswell Pet Foods have agreed to participate in our Pet Food Recall First Alert program. My sincere thanks go out to both of these pet foods.
Here is our current list of Pet Food Companies that have agreed to develop and/or agree to promptly notify customers should a pet food problem arise…

Ok…now for the rest of the story.
I’ve received many emails from pet lovers over this plan; both words of encouragement and words of doubt. I want to tell all that I understand both sides. However, if nothing is done, nothing will change. It seems the biggest issue doubters have shared with me regards honesty. The issue that Wysong recalled more dog food and that this information was not shared with me by the Wysong Representative in our correspondence has stopped several from believing and supporting this campaign. As well, others have shared with me that this program does not guarantee that any Pet Food Company will actually do what they have agreed to do – inform customers in a timely manner of a pet food problem. Many believe some Pet Food Companies will only use our program to promote themselves as integrity minded companies while behind our backs they will still hide recalls.
Well, I have my doubts too. However, instead of only looking at the dark side of this – I am choosing to look at our effort as a crack in the door. I ask all doubters to think about this…Pet Food Companies such as those that have already agreed to join us, don’t have to agree to this! They can tell us to ‘go jump in the creek’ – ‘lose my number’. Pet Food regulations (our beloved FDA) do not require Pet Food Companies to inform customers of a pet food recall in this manner. Case in point – Wysong. The FDA itself told Wysong there was no need to issue a press release on their recall.
I do understand the doubt. I do understand your reservations if this will actually help. But…(and this is big)…please realize that this is a crack in the door. It is a beginning. Yes, there will be issues to work out along the way. Yes, there will be some that abuse the plan. But…it is a beginning. This is a crack in the door to build better communication between Pet Food and Pet Owners. This is the beginning to what so many of us have been begging for – for years.
Please, even if you still have doubt, support this beginning. Please send your letters to your Pet Food Company. Just days old we have accomplished tremendous things; six significant Pet Food Companies and one Pet Treat Company have already willingly agreed to our plan. The door to improved communication between pet owners and pet food has already opened with these companies. More will join. It is a tremendous beginning that pet owners and pet food can build on from here.
Wishing you and your pet(s) the best,
