Significant Food Ruling
A judge in Wisconsin just made a ruling of significant concern to anyone that wishes to purchase food locally or to grow their own food.
Ok, granted this lawsuit was based on the rights of a consumer to drink raw milk (unpasteurized), but what the judge’s ruling stated is frightening. “In a decision denying basic property rights and even exceeding the FDA’s contempt for the rights of private contract and food freedom of choice, Dane County Circuit Court Judge Patrick J. Fiedler has issued an order holding that owners of cows do not have a fundamental right to consume milk from their own cow.”
Taken directly from the judges orders dated August 12, 2011…
“(1) no, Plaintiffs do not have a fundamental right to own and use a dairy cow or a dairy herd;
(2) no, Plaintiffs do not have a fundamental right to consume the milk from their own cow;
(5) no, Plaintiffs do not have a fundamental right to produce and consume the foods of their choice;”
No kidding. Scary isn’t it?
One more quote from the judge’s ruling…
“This court is unwilling to declare that there is a fundamental right to consume the food of one’s choice without first being presented with significantly more developed arguments on both sides of the issue.”
Based on this incredible decision, let’s play ‘What if’ for a moment…
What if we were denied the right to feed our pets anything other than AAFCO approved pet food?
What if we were denied the right to purchase fresh food directly from the farm?
and for that matter…
What if we were denied the right to grow and consume our own food?
This is one of the most frightening court decisions I’ve ever seen or heard of. How much control does industry have over our government?
