Holistic Hound was started by Heidi Hill in 2003 in Berkeley, California and is a blend of her two passions: animals and holistic healthcare. It was inspired by her then 2 year old husky, Pearl. Pearl passed away in May 2016 at the age of 14 1/2. She was, and will forever be, the muse and mascot of the store. We specialize in natural and complementary remedies and therapies for many common problems such as allergies, separation anxiety and arthritis, including nutritional, herbal and glandular supplements, homeopathy, and flower essences. Knowing that nutrition provides the foundation of good health, we carry premium quality human-grade foods, specializing in locally sourced raw foods, bones and treats. Jan 2000 I left the vet field after 12 years because I was unhappy with the health care provided by traditional Veterinarians. The Spaw was established in Jan 2000 in an effort to provide a holistic alternative to traditional pet grooming, boarding and daycare. In 2005 we began to notice a pattern with health issues and diet. In 2008 one of the largest nationwide recalls of pet food would begin but not before 1000 of pets would die including some of our clients. The Spaw then became a nutrition center with a no tolerance for poor pet food. We only sell whole fresh food, no kibble. All of our front office staff are required to become certified pet nutritionists and we continue our education about pet food by traveling all over the world and seeking only the best diets for our clients to serve to their pets. We love to say we are helping you become your pets hero.
