I am told by Food and Water Watch, the USDA is planning to visit China in mid March 2013 in preparation for chicken imports from China for human consumption. I guess more than 500 dead pets isn’t enough evidence for USDA.

It’s going to be a bumpy ride.  I am told by Food and Water Watch, the USDA is planning to visit China in mid March 2013 in preparation for chicken imports from China for human consumption.  I guess more than 500 dead pets isn’t enough evidence for USDA.

Tony Corbo – Senior Lobbyist for Food and Water Watch tells me “USDA is sending an audit team to China beginning on March 4.  They will be there until the 19th.  The team is to report back as to whether China can export processed poultry for human consumption to U.S.”

Poultry from China has been tested to contain illegal drug residues by the NY Department of Agriculture; illegal sulfa drugs.  To which we suspect many pets were allergic to and thus suffered deadly allergic response to.  Now guess what is going to happen to people who are allergic to sulfa drugs?

Dr. Daniel More, MD states:
The antibiotic sulfonamides are different structurally from the non-antibiotic sulfonamides, and appear to be much more likely to result in allergic reactions. Many of the sulfa non-antibiotics, therefore, do not cause problems in people with sulfa antibiotic allergy.

How common is sulfa allergy?
The overall incidence of adverse drug reactions to sulfa antibiotics is approximately 3%, similar to other antibiotics such as penicillin. Certain groups appear to be at higher risk for sulfa allergy, including those that metabolize these medications more slowly and those with immune problems such as AIDS.

What symptoms are common in sulfa allergy?
Skin reactions. Skin reactions are the most common adverse reactions to sulfa medications, ranging from various benign rashes to life-threatening Stevens-Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis. Hives and increased sensitivity to sunlight (photosensitivity) are also possible. There is a possibility that if the sulfa medication is continued despite a mild rash occurring, the rash could progress to a more severe form of skin reaction.

Liver and kidney injury. People with sulfa allergy may also develop a type of hepatitis, and kidney failure, as a result of sulfa medications.

Lung reactions. Sulfa allergy can also affect the lung, with pneumonia-like reactions, worsening asthma and vasculitis occurring.

Blood reactions. Sulfa allergy can also affect various blood cells, resulting in decreased white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets, through an immunologic-mediated manner.

How is sulfa allergy diagnosed?
There is no skin test or blood test available to diagnose sulfa allergy. Therefore, the diagnosis is made when a person, who is taking a sulfonamide medication, experiences symptoms consistent with those seen in sulfa allergy.

And guess what…there won’t be any warnings on that can of soup or that TV dinner – ‘Warning – this food could contain illegal sulfa drugs that could result in death.’  Consumers won’t know if their food contains Chinese chicken until…

I think we should let Dr Oz know about this…….

Shirley, I’m afraid to tell you that Dr. Oz is now a sell out. I suppose it was only a matter of time, given that he’s much more a media personality than an M.D. these days, but it’s sad nonetheless.

There was no hiding it when he went back on all his previous statements regarding organic foods in an article he wrote (for Time, I think), now claiming that there are no benefits to seeking organic foods over “conventional” foods. Worse than that, his arguments for his position were completely false premises. Who would benefit from this article? Some very large, powerful and connected Agri-business corporations who don’t make money when people are looking for food that avoids their GMO-plants and crop chemicals.

We cannot look to people in the media to tell the truth. You (and all of us) must dig to find it ourselves, and then spread the information as far as we can within our own circles, with the proof necessary to back it up.

I definatly believe in making your own petfood. However, will we be able to tell where that chicken were using to make that Petfood is coming from? We need to use meat in the recipe and our dogs like some variety and something other than beef.

I was raised on a farm years ago. We fed our dogs family leftovers and never had a sick dog or one to die of cancer. Now living it town we have lost two dogs with cancer and one with seizures. They all ate commercial dog food. Now people food will be just as bad. I look back in time and cancer was rare. Now it’s next to Heart problems. Is this population control? BTW I’ll be 83 this second of March. So If we get Chinese chicken I now my family will NOT eat chicken, Blessings to all.

I have actually already noticed a “texture” change in chain grocery store chicken….kinda spongy..really weird. Since this grossed me out, I have been buying meat for myself and my kitty at a family owned and operated meat market/ farm. The cost is pretty close to the chain stores. Wonderful flavor and no more weird texture. Just thought I’d throw this option out there……

I used to buy the cooked chicken at Costco and then after getting a few that seemed strange and had an odd texture in part of the white meat, I stopped buying it.

So, I am wondering who stands to gain and might have the clout to get the chinese chicken accepted for human consumption. As I was glancing through the food and water watch website and came across a report about how Walmart can’t fix the food system, it occurred to me that Walmart would be a good bet. If that is the case and walmart is true to form, China may come to regret it. 🙂

My letter has been sent!!! My husband and I have just lost a precious 4 1/2 year old Boston Terrier to China’s Deadly Treats and I am one of the Americans Citizens that’s allergic to the Sulfa Antibiotics China’s Contaminating Our Imported Foods With. And I am SCREAMING I’M PISSED AT OUR AMERICAN GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS!!!!!!!!

Right there with you Michelle. And on top of it all – we can rest assure that should (when) something goes wrong, the FDA won’t do anything about it – because it will be from a foreign manufacturer. My 80 year old Mom is allergic to sulfa drugs too. The first place this chicken will probably go is school lunch programs. They have already ‘tested’ the chicken on our dogs – our children will be next.

I am so sorry Michelle. It’s very hard to feel like no one is listening or cares except for the people on these websites who can empathize bc we’ve all been through it ourselves. My heart goes out to you.

      Michelle,
I just want to tell you how sorry I am for the loss of your beloved dog. What is going on with both our own food and that of our pets, is criminal!! I hope you will push for compensation from the toxic treat company! Although no amount that will replace your dog, they need to pay and be held accountable. I am so disgusted with all of the recalls and toxic crap they call “food”. My heart goes out to you.

I watched the scariest program on public tv last night. It’s worse than we thought even here in the states. This is slanted toward how “good” we are but it comes across entirely differently to me! Chemicals, GMO, and what we feed our feed animals. It’s a No Win situation for us.

I would like to know if this chicken has also been used in dog food & if these drugs have been used in other meat sources. The symptoms are identical to the manifestations in my dog following the Diamond food recall last year. I know that recall was for salmonella, but for my dog the symptoms were never similar to salmonella. They were more serious & I felt in my heart of hearts that there was another problem the FDA wasn’t identifying. The photosensitivity is the unique symptom that really stands out. He developed blisters on his belly & fevers if he was in the sun. He had eaten an XL bag over the course of many weeks before the symptoms appeared. I switched him to an organic only human ingredient diet but he didn’t survive more than a few months due to pain & suffering. Reading this list brought me to tears. Of course no one at the dog food company would tell me where the ingredients are sourced from. Live & learn. Thanks for the article Susan. If you don’t already know about her, author Robyn O’Brien is the human health advocate equivalent of what you’re doing. She’s a great resource of information on fb if you want to follow her.

This news is alarming……late last year one of our Senators from OH, Sherrod Brown (D), was very upset about the situation of food being used for pet food that came from China.

I just emailed this to him…..he needs to know about this.
