31 Pledges!

We’ve come a long way baby! Consumers have received 31 Pledges to Quality and Origin from pet food/treat manufacturers.

We’ve come a long way baby! Consumers have received 31 Pledges to Quality and Origin from pet food/treat manufacturers.

I just have to brag on all of us. In an industry full of secrets and little transparency, pet food consumers have pushed past the secrets. We have asked for a promise and disclosure – and 31 pet food/treat manufacturers have stepped up and provided just that. Quite a milestone.

For those unaware, the Pledge to Quality and Origin is an effort by and for pet food consumers. We have asked pet food manufacturers simply for their promise to the quality of each ingredient and the country of origin of each ingredient in their pet food or treat. The Pledge isn’t about judgement – we simply want their public promise about quality and origin of the pet food we purchase.

I’m proud of all of us! We’ve done good.

Below is the current list of Pledges – please visit the Association for Truth in Pet Food website for updates as we are expecting more Pledges in the near future.

This is great and I will keep the list handy. I still do not see Origin’s name however. Good work all, finally some good news.

I second Ann’s comment (at 3:02pm 4/30) – didn’t Champion Pet Foods, makers of Orijen and Acana, previously make the pledge?

No – Champion has never provided their Pledge. Several years ago they said they were going to provide it, but we’ve never received it.

Is there a list of companies that have refused the pledge? Merrick seems to have some pretty good statements on their website, but I wonder what I might be missing…

No, I did not compile a list of pet foods that refused to Pledge. I didn’t want this to be negative, it is a positive step. But…you can assume that every pet food not listed above has been asked, and refused. I emailed more than 100 manufacturers myself and consumers have been asking since the beginning of the Pledge too.
